This site is mostly for my photographs, but I figured I would give a small glimpse of the person behind the lens.
My name is Miika Järvinen. I'm a
pretty normal guy living in a small town called Forssa in the Southern Finland, about 120km north from Helsinki. I was born on a beautiful winter day of December 27th in 1979 Anno Domini. I earn my living as an electrician in a small local firm. Enough of that, let's go into a more interesting subject, photography.
Ever since I was a kid, I've been interested in cameras and photography. To that, I owe thanks to my father. My hobby started when I was about 14 years old. My father asked if I wanted a moped or a camera, I picked the latter. It was Canon F-1N AE. Within a year or so I got my first acceptance in an exhibition (3rd Kajaani International Exhibition of Nature Photography, 1995). I was 15.
My main area of interest is nature, but I'm not that picky. I like good pictures, the subject is irrelevant. I'm one of those people who are more into the visual aspects of an image rather than trying to deliver a deeper "meaning/message" with it.
As photography is a hobby for me, I don't create any unnecessary pressures for myself to capture good images etc. Even though, I have a relaxed take on this, I've put small, long term, goals for myself. Main ones being: getting AFIAP title and holding a couple of exhibitions. Time will tell if they work out.
